To celebrate Ghana’s 64th Republic Day in Medway, the Medway Ghanaian Association (MGA) organised a Family Fun Day for the Ghanaian Community in Kent and Medway, and members of the Medway community in general.
There were lots of activities for the day, such as sack race, egg and spoon race, bouncy castle, scrabble, chess, oware, just to mention a few. Afrobeat and Jama music was provided by DJ Old solider to entertain members of the public. There were lots of traditional Ghanaian foods and drinks for the public to eat and drink.
In attendance was the Medway and Kent police beat team, the Kent Fire and Rescue team, MVA and MACA. Also in attendance were Deputy Mayor of Medway Cllr. Douglas Hamandishe, Deputy Lord Lieutenant Col (Rtd) Chris Gilbert representing the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Cllr Roger Barrett, and Cllr Kwashie Anang, who is also the chairperson of the association. The main event for the day was a football match between the IGBO and the Ghanaian community in Medway, which was refereed by Cllr Chris Spalding. The IGBO community won by 3 goals to 1 and lifted the trophy which was presented to them by the chairman of the Medway Police Independent Advisory Group Francisco Perez-Lumbreras. The event took place at the Rainham Recreational Ground.

It was a really great afternoon for the 64th Republic Day of Ghana, celebrated in Medway, and up and down the country. It was particularly great to see the IGBO and Medway Ghanaian Association take part in a football match, which was enjoyed by all involved.
