Chatham Dockyard was established in in the mid-16th century and famously serviced ships that fought against the Spanish Armada, as well as supporting efforts in other military campaigns and domestic efforts in the First and Second World Wars. Today the Dockyard is open to the public to explore and learn more about the deep history of the Dockyard and the key role it played in the success of military and domestic campaigns in centuries past.
Sir John Nott announced on the 25th June 1981 that the Dockyard would close as a working naval base and the 40th Anniversary garden party celebrated the achievements of the Dockyard throughout history as well as the key role the Dockyard Trust play in Medway today.
