Councillor Potter, portfolio holder for Educational Attainment and Improvement, was thrilled to be able to attend Medway National Citizen Service's graduation event on Wednesday.
The fantastic NCS scheme enables groups of 15 to 17 year olds work in teams over a 2-4 week period in order to make a positive impact within the community. Making a huge difference to young people's confidence and leadership skills, groups also make friends, challenge themselves, and improve their C.V along the way.
The NCS programme was established in 2011 following earlier pilots supported by the Conservative party, before its introduction as part of David Cameron's ‘Big Society’ agenda to bring together local communities. The Conservative party's ambition was for NCS to become universal and a ‘rite of passage’ for young people, leading to a more responsible, cohesive and engaged society.
The graduation event provides a chance for the teams to present the outcomes of their projects, and for their achievements to be celebrated. Councillor Potter, pictured left along with hosts Rosie, Kai and Connie, was impressed by the extent of teams' successes in Medway, and would like to congratulate all participants on their hard work.
