Medway Conservatives Leading the Way in Delivering Homes with New Housing Company
Medway Conservatives are today delighted to be overseeing the establishment of a new housing company; Medway Development Company Limited. The housing company will serve to cement Medway’s reputation as a leading light in solving the discrepancy between housing supply and population growth within Medway and the rest of the South East.
The Conservative Group recognise the importance of maximising opportunities to invest in or develop property within Medway, taking advantage of Medway’s excellent transport links and rich cultural heritage. Medway Conservatives are proud to be helping first-time-buyers via the delivery of new and affordable housing, with Medway Development Company Limited aiming to deliver over 700 homes over a five to ten year period, spread across twelve potential sites.
Deputy Leader and portfolio holder for Housing and Community Services, Councillor Howard Doe, said;
‘Medway’s Local Plan sets out the need for an additional 29, 463 homes by 2035. I am extremely pleased to say that the creation of Medway Development Company Limited will facilitate the achievement of this target, and be providing good quality homes as part of the regeneration of Medway.
I would like to thank officers for the hard work they have put into developing such a comprehensive business case. Along with plans for the development of Rochester Riverside, this positive injection into the housing market demonstrates the Conservative Group’s continued drive to deliver growth in Medway, and make it an even better place to live.’
Councillor Adrian Gulvin, portfolio holder for Resources, also said;
‘I am delighted with the business case that Cabinet has seen and approved today. The housing company has the potential to deliver a positive profit and lending benefit for the Council. This is fantastic news for the public, as this will allow us to pool these additional resources into developing improved community facilities across Medway without cost to the taxpayer.’
