Medway Conservatives were pleased with Government’s announcement Friday afternoon that new powers have been handed to Local Authorities which enable us to temporarily hold public meetings virtually, by using either video or telephone conferencing technology.
Councillor Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Conservatives and Medway Council, said:
“I am very pleased that Government has taken this latest step as part of their response to the current challenging circumstances.
The new powers, which came into play from Saturday 4 April onwards, will allow us to continue to effectively carry out business on behalf of the people of Medway whilst remaining completely transparent and accountable and in the words of the Government will ‘ensure that local democracy continues to thrive’. It is of paramount importance that we embrace these innovative ways of working in order to allow us all to follow Government guidance to stay at home, protect the NHS, and save lives.
Medway Council continues to use all social media, web platforms and email communications to regularly update councillors, staff and the public on the recent situation and the steps that we have taken on a local level.”
