Medway Conservatives are thrilled at today’s announcement from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, which confirms that a major funding bid from Medway Council has progressed to the next stage.
One of 45 local authority bids to have progressed, Medway will now begin detailed planning and production of a business case in order to secure our share of £5 billion of available funding. If successful, the bid would allow the Council to deliver countless infrastructure improvements – including to road, rail, school, health and other community facilities - and therefore unlock potential growth across the Hoo Peninsula.
Councillor Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Conservative Group and Medway Council, said:
‘Medway Conservatives continue to lead Medway Council as an administration with vision, ambition and determination, and the announcement today is evidence of what can be achieved as a result.
We have listened to our communities and when faced with the need to provide more homes, at a time where pressure on our existing infrastructure is mounting, we have formed a comprehensive strategy which will allow Medway residents to benefit from the resultant growth – protecting our greenspaces, whilst facilitating sustainable growth and improved connectivity.
Medway Conservatives have worked closely with all three Medway MPs, Kelly Tolhurst, Tracey Crouch and Rehman Chishti, and are grateful for the strong support they have offered and the lobbying they have undertaken at a national level; all of which has contributed to making the Medway bid so attractive. I very much look forward to continuing the bidding process, and having the opportunity to present a very persuasive case to government.’
