The Conservative Group today welcomed the outcome of the inspection carried out by the Regulator of Social Housing. The inspection outcome of C2 (C1 being the top grade) is a testament to the hard work of the Housing team and the success of the improvement plan process initiated several years ago.
Councillor Andrew Lawrence, Shadow Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Community and Housing, said:
“The Housing Team can be proud of the outcome and the progress made in delivering high quality housing for Medway Council Tenants. I would like to commend officers on the engagement with tenants and thank those tenants who gave much of their own time to be involved in the inspection process.
Cllr Perfect and I heard directly from officers about the amount of work that went into the Inspection process and how the housing team had the foresight to begin preparations long before the Council was notified of the Inspection.
My ongoing conversations with officers and through the overview and scrutiny committee on a broad range of issues including temporary housing as well as the Council’s own stock give me confidence that the team are very well placed to meet the ongoing challenges of providing housing in Medway.”
Leader of the Opposition, Councillor George Perfect added:
“I’m delighted to hear about the outcome of the recent housing inspection, testament to the hard work of officers across the council’s housing team. It being the first inspection, the results demonstrate that homes are safe and suitable for tenants needs.
As an opposition, we remain committed to working with the administration constructively to improve the service, including through the HRA Governance Group.
Well done to all involved in the inspection process.”
