After a year of Medway Labour running Medway Council, the Conservatives have released data on Medway Council’s performance on repairing potholes across the authority. Freely available reports show that for the period 1st January 2024 to 30th April 2024, the number of potholes repaired fell 37.5% compared to the same period in 2023.
Shadow Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Community and Housing, Cllr Andrew Lawrence commented:
“Given the noise that Leader of the Council, Councillor Maple, has made about the lack of funding for the repair of potholes, he and his colleague Councillor Curry have been caught letting down Medway residents. There has been no explanation for the underperformance on repairing potholes from Medway Labour.
Cllr Maple had been very critical of the previous Conservative administration and Government on potholes and now it appears that Medway Labour’s own performance is far worse than the previous Conservative administration.
It is clear that that pothole performance is likely to decline as Medway Labour have unnecessarily cut the pothole budget by £300,000 meaning that the roads in Medway will continue to deteriorate.”
