Medway Conservatives Appalled at Labour Group’s Attempt to Block Social Care Funding
MEDWAY CONSERVATIVES PRESS RELEASE 06.03.18
For Immediate Release
Following the snow and freezing weather last week, Medway Conservatives would like to thank all those members of staff and volunteers across Medway, whose tireless hard work and dedication to keeping Medway residents safe and mobile set an example to us all.
Whilst many across Medway banded together to help each other and keep watch over vulnerable neighbours, once again the Medway Labour Group failed to show any commitment to supporting the most in need within our society. Medway Conservatives continue to be appalled that the Labour Group unanimously voted against funding allocations, without which children and adults at risk would once again be left without support.
Medway Labour voted against:
- More money for vulnerable children
- More money for vulnerable adults
- More money for the homeless
- More money for the Royal Volunteer Service
Councillor Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Council and the Conservative Group, said:
‘Labour’s callous refusal to support a balanced budget which protects the most vulnerable and brings Growth for All is illustrative of the sort of opposition we are facing – an opposition intent on putting shallow political aims before the interests of vulnerable children and adults.
I am increasingly concerned that Labour would risk the wellbeing of these most vulnerable people in our communities. I am pleased to be able to reassure Medway residents that under this Conservative administration we shall continue to safeguard our vital services and defend them from the swingeing cuts promoted by Medway Labour Group.’
