At the Full Council meeting on 21st July 2022, Conservatives brought forward a report to agree the addition of £12.85m to the capital budget, in order for an outstanding leisure centre to be provided in Rainham as soon as possible.
However, Medway Labour proposed postponing consideration of the redevelopment to October 2022 at the earliest, which would incur a significant delay and potential cost increases. There is no guarantee of Labour's approval in October either! This was a deliberate attempt to delay the building of the leisure centre for political reasons.
Medway residents deserve this remodeled facility, and Labour is doing its best to thwart timely progress.
Leader of Medway Council, Alan Jarrett said: “Labour's attempt to delay this important project is shameful! Fortunately, this isn’t a Labour-run Council and we will deliver the new Splashes, as promised, despite Labour’s attempts at sabotage. Conservatives put Medway residents, their families and their children above all else.”
