MEDWAY CONSERVATIVES PRESS RELEASE 29.01.18
For Immediate Release
At last week’s meeting of Medway Council, Medway Conservatives were shocked that Medway Labour chose to unanimously oppose a motion outlining the constructive ways in which the Council can work with Kent Police partners.
In a recorded vote, every Labour Councillor chose to carry out what amounts to a vote of no confidence in Kent Police, the Community Safety Partnership, Community Wardens and the Police and Crime Commissioner. The actions of the Labour Group demonstrate both an unwillingness to engage with partners to take strong action against crime, and a lack of awareness of the importance of the Council’s current work to build stronger and more resilient communities.
The motion, which also thanked frontline Police, Council officers, and staff for their service to our community, was supported by all members of the Medway Conservative Group. Medway Conservatives resolved to continue to proactively work with partners to keep Medway a safe and pleasant place to live, work and visit.
Councillor Alan Jarrett, Leader of the Council, said:
‘I am appalled at the callous and ignorant snub the Labour Group has delivered to Kent Police through their refusal to see reason and support the motion. Medway Conservatives recognise the importance of liaising with partners to help fight crime on all fronts. Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of Medway residents, and, unlike my Labour colleagues, I am proud to say that we will continue to take an active role and use every forum available to advance the protection of our communities.’
