Shadow Cabinet Member for Business Support, Digital and Climate Change (including cost of living support and welfare), Councillor Tejan, was pleased to join the Medway Foodbank to mark National Foodbank Day. Cllr Tejan had the opportunity to speak with staff, volunteers, and trustees about the work of the Foodbank, the hardship they have experienced and their hopes for the future.
The Trusell Trust, which seeded the Medway Foodbank, had distributed 3.1 million emergency fund parcels to people facing hardship across the UK in the past twelve months, including 5120 food parcels in Medway. The Trust does vital work to support people in need across the UK.
Councillor Habib Tejan, Shadow Cabinet Member for Business Support, Digital and Climate Change, said:
I was pleased to take the opportunity to visit the Medway Foodbank and meet with Trustees, staff and volunteers to hear about their work.
They do vital work across the UK, but particularly here in Medway supporting people in need. This has never been so important, particularly during the recent cost of living crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the impacts of inflationary pressures from the pandemic.
I very much hope that there will come a day when Foodbanks are not needed in Medway, but in the meantime, the Medway Foodbank has my full support.
