Conservative Councillors from across Medway were extremely proud and privileged to be able to represent residents at multiple Remembrance Day events held throughout Medway.
In Strood Rural Ward, services were held at Rochester Cathedral. Councillor John Williams said,
“Even though we wear a poppy as a First World War icon of Remembrance Day, this is an instantly recognizable date and is held as a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts”.
Councillor Gary Etheridge further added,
“Wreaths of remembrance poppies were laid by Medway’s civic dignitaries, ex-servicemen and women, veterans' organisations), members of local armed forces regular and reserve units ( Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Territorials, Royal Air Force and Auxiliary, military cadet forces, ( Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadets, Air Training Corps, and youth organisations (e.g. Scouts, Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade and Guides), creating a very sombre effect”.
