The Medway Conservative Group is pleased that yesterday's Ofsted Area SEND inspection of the Medway Local Area Partnership demonstrates the progress made since 2017. The report highlights the positive co-production and relationship with the Medway Parents and Carers Forum, who are now embedded at the heart of the service. The leadership team of children’s services, are praised for their accurate understanding of the needs of children and young people with SEND, which is very positive. However, the report does demonstrate the historical barriers, which has led to a fragmented approach, which the administration must robustly focus on improving.
Commenting on the report, Councillor George Perfect, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Opposition Spokesperson for Children and Young People, said:
"We welcome the positive Ofsted SEND area inspection, released yesterday. Whilst acknowledging the ongoing improvements necessary, in recent years, the leadership of children's services has robustly focused on improving the experience received by children and young people experiencing SEND, however, there remain improvements to be made. The opposition will continue to constructively hold the administration to account in this area".
