The Medway Conservatives are concerned by news that 40 jobs are to be lost at the University of Kent, at Chatham. The University of Kent is a key strategic partner of Medway Council, and its success has contributed to the thriving student scene that has been seen in Chatham over recent years. The University supports journalism courses, amongst others, and has been a major part of our economic development success under Conservative leadership of the Towns.
Councillor George Perfect, Opposition Spokesperson for Education said:
The University of Kent are a key strategic partner of Medway Council, and we are concerned by this news. The jobs at risk are good quality jobs with many employees living in Medway. I have written to the Vice-Chancellor, requesting a meeting to discuss this matter and for further information about how job losses can be mitigated. We look forward to discussing these matters, as well as more positive developments such as the Docking Station soon.
