This morning several Conservative Councillors were delighted to attend the celebratory ‘Love Strood’ event which took place to mark the completion of the Local Growth Fund improvement works at Commercial Road car park/Tolgate Lane. The event also served as an opportunity to look forward to the delivery of the remaining phases of the Strood Town Centre Improvement project, and as the launch of the new-look Strood market.
Councillors Alan Jarrett, Rodney Chambers, Jane Chitty, Phil Filmer, Gary Etheridge and Mayor and Mayoress Steve and Josie Iles were all in attendance to mark the completion of this important transformational work, which has delivered enhanced connectivity between the high street and other local retail offer. Speaking at the event, Cllr. Jane Chitty of Strood North highlighted the importance of the project being resident focused, and thanked those who had been integral in the delivery of such a meaningful project for all to be proud of.
Councillor Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Council, said:
"The completion of the Commercial Road car park project perfectly illustrates this administration’s commitment to project delivery – on time and on budget. I would like to thank our partners at the South East Local Enterprise Partnership, from whom Medway Council successfully secured £9 million of funding from the government’s Local Growth Fund to improve Strood Town Centre. I am delighted to say that by 2021 LGF funding within Medway will total over £40 million.
This particular project has proved integral to the facilitation of an enhanced niche shopping offer for the people of Medway and I will be excited to see the remainder of the transformational works we are progressing be completed across Strood in the future."
